Racism. Is. Real.

Racism is still a relevant topic today because it still exists today. This statement, unfortunately, is very true, yet there exist people who continuously assert that "racism is a thing of the past," and "everyone is equal today." Not only are these statements blatantly incorrect, they are also ignorant to the events that go on today. Take the BLM movement, for example. If racism truly was nonexistent, why would a movement such as BLM gain so much traction and attention? Answer: it wouldn't. The podcast, "The Problem We All Live Through" was actually eye-opening for me. It talked about an incident that happened in the mid 2010s -- the murder of Michael Brown. However, the podcast went on to talk about the issue Brown's mother was so concerned about: his education going to waste. This is a very peculiar thing to be worried about when your son dies. I guess everything relates back to the American Dream....

 Using your hard-earned money to buy a house is something you can do to prove to yourself that you have indeed succeeded in life and that the American Dream is coming true. This is why Mama from  A Raisin in the Sun  first suggests buying a house when talking about what to do with Walter Young's insurance money: "Been thinking that we maybe could meet the notes on a little old two-story somewhere." However, this was purely speculation on Mama's part because she never mentioned buying a house again. Part of this reason was because I think she knows the difficulty of acquiring a house due to severe housing discrimination during that time. She also mentions how she and Walter had similar dreams in the past and how they were going to "set away" and "buy a little place out in Morgan Park."
