Looking back

The biggest thing I learned during my senior year: I have absolutely no idea what I want to do with my life. Sure I'm going into computer science and I'm pretty decent at it, but am I actually passionate about it? Not particularly, if I'm being honest.

Senior year was the first time I started looking ahead in my life and as college applications came about, I found out how behind I was compared to some people. Some people had been doing the things they loved throughout high school and were confident with what they wanted to pursue. Others grew to love the things they were doing. And the remaining seniors were like me, completely clueless about the direction they wanted to take with their life.

After a couple of conversations with my brother and my family, I came to the realization that throughout high school, everything I had done academically had been for the sole reason of college. Either that or because my friends did it. An example of this is taking AP World -- not my smartest decision taking such a painful class senior year. But doing this throughout my life ensured that out of all the things I did, very few of them did I actually enjoy. Hence my predicament now. But now that I realized how important it is to just do what you're passionate about instead of worrying about your future, I think this is an important perspective to take into college. Over the next four years, I'm going to do my best to explore my different options instead of randomly doing things and randomly taking courses. Hopefully, this will allow me to find my passions and live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
